The wilderness series

This series was initially made for a show at Warrington Museum and Art Gallery in response to the theme of Journeys that some of their collection was arranged around. Spending a lot of time on and around transport paths, trains, trams, cycle routes, footpaths I was pondering on the spaces in between these paths.  I've spent the last 20 years travelling across the UK by train. I can happily sit for hours staring out of a window daydreaming and letting my mind freewheel. So many marginal spaces are visible on train journeys. Spots of wilderness, between the train tracks an the rest of our built environment. I imagine the millions if others who travel the same paths regularly: train tracks, tramlines, canals. I wonder how much creative energy (from daydreaming and freewheeling) is projected into those wilderness spaces. These in-between places could be seen as containers for creative energy and I marvel at how much potential these places might hold. I redrew the images from these etchings and screen printed a small concertina book -Inbetween-.  I sent some of these books out to the corners of the UK to seed the idea further.
