longing in the loft

This work began while I was feeling a yearning for home and was pondering over the feeling and where indeed, home might be.
Might it be the place of our birth, the place of our family, the places we feel peace or invigoration. I thought perhaps wherever it was, it is always with us, in memories, projected onto our immediate surroundings. How might it be if the places of our longing were manifest, I began to cut those images into domestic furniture and to take prints from them. I installed the pieces into the loft space at Islington Mill, Salford, where I spent some time with them and invited others to do the same.  You can see a walk through the space here  and read an account of visiting the space here. I also made a book, gathering some of the documentation from the project which will be found on the book page soon.
